Hooligans in uniform

On November 20, 1943, the Pietermaritzburg City Hall was the site of a two-hour riot caused by white soldiers and their girlfriends protesting about a dance organised by the Natal Coloured Welfare League. Mayor Eleanor Russell addressed the protestors from the City Hall steps. A civilian threatened to dynamite the hall and someone else shouted "Tonight is the night for the Ossewa Brandwag" (The Witness, June 5, 2013).
